Easter holidays are usually a time of the year in which a large number of tourists and visitors come to your city, especially those coming from different parts of the country and municipalities near Santander. These holidays are very attractive because the good weather is about to come, or it has just started, and thousands of people usually take advantage of warm days for tourism, whether gastronomic, cultural, adventure, etc. As you know, Santander is usually one of the favorite destinations in northern Spain for Spaniards to go on vacation due to the wide variety of activities that the city and its environment offers.

However, since the beginning of the covid-19 pandemic, the profile of tourist that visit Santander has experienced some changes. For example, mobility restrictions caused international tourism to decrease considerably since 2020, producing the opposite effect on national tourism, which increased, especially during the summer due to Santander's good reputation as a "safe destination", and to factors derived from this decrease in international tourism, such as greater availability of accommodation and cheaper prices. After the summer, the consequences of the second covid-19 wave were felt: the Autonomous Communities again declared a perimetral confinement due to the new increase in cases, which led to a decrease in national tourism at times when there is usually a large influx of visitors to Santander, such as the Immaculate Conception long weekend, Christmas holidays, etc., and of course, Easter holidays, where the contrast of low tourism comparing to previous years was noticeable.

During the first days of Holy Week (Monday, Tuesday and Holy Wednesday) about 453,000 regional visitors came to the city, coming from nearby municipalities such as Camargo, Santa Cruz de Bezana or Piélagos, and almost 19,500 national tourists came from other provinces. This number contrasts sharply with the Holy Week of the previous year, since the perimetral confinement is still maintained to avoid mobility, "Exit Operations" and the massive displacement of people to other communities, which prevented the arrival of large numbers of regular national tourists such as those from Madrid or Bilbao.

From Thursday, that marks the beggining of the holidays for most people,  the number of visitors and tourists decreased, reaching only about 135,000.

The day with the largest influx of people to the city was Wednesday 31st (approximately 54,700 people), and the nearby municipalities from where more people came to Santander during this period were Camargo and Santa Cruz de Bezana.
