The Magdalena Palace and its enclosure is one of the most emblematic and visited places in Santander. Its great historical richness and the beauty of its surroundings make it one of the greatest tourist jewels of the city. Enjoying a walk through its gardens and trails, go to the beach of La Magdalena or having a great time with the children in the playground are among the best plans you can do in Santander.

For some time now, the site has been equipped with a technology that allows counting people, through which we can know how many visitors the Magdalena has daily.

The number of visitors usually varies depending on various factors such as weekdays and weekends, mornings and afternoons, long weekends and holidays, and even the arrival of good weather usually means an increase in visitors.

During 2021, another factor that could have caused a variation in the number of visitors to the site could have been the perimeter opening of the municipalities, after the closure of their borders as a preventive Covid measure.

Since mid-April, the increase in the number of visitors to the Magdalena began to be noticed, coinciding with the gradual opening of the towns adjacent to Santander. From May, the average occupancy begins to increase, a fact that also coincides with the longer evenings and good weather.

As in winter, the favorite days for visitors to come to the Magdalena are usually weekends and holidays, such as May 1, Labor Day, and May 24, the Virgen del Mar festivity. As in the winter months, the difference in visits between weekdays and weekends is significant.

From June onwards, average occupancy and visits increase even more. This coincides with the start of the summer vacations for some and the arrival of tourists to the city.  During this month, visits produced large peaks on certain days, especially Saturdays and Sundays, the only days on which it is possible to visit the palace during the summer schedule.

In addition, as every year, starting in June, the courses of the Menéndez Pelayo International University begin, which means a greater traffic of people in the enclosure.

This trend continues to rise during the month of July, one of the summer months and vacations par excellence, where the arrival of foreign and domestic tourists was noted in the sites of the Magdalena. Unlike previous months, in July the difference in the number of visitors to the site on weekdays and weekends is much smaller.

From your City Council, we want you to feel safe in front of the Covid-19. Therefore, thanks to these devices to count people, you can be aware of the occupation of the most representative buildings and places of the city, so you can choose the best time to visit them, both for your safety and to avoid queues and waiting.
